An EBook Book Reader Manufactured By The Computer Giants Acer Inc. Set To Join Amazon Kindle
Acer Inc., no slouch when it comes to competing in the laptop space, have announced their plans to be in the ebook book reader arena later on this year.
Acer executive Jim Wong, head of the company's IT Products group, outlined the strategy through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's HQ in Taipei.
The day before Apple's alleged entry into the tablet sweeps-a gadget that would serve e-book readers in addition to others-Wong also said the company will additionally offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which can sustain Google's Android platform, at present running on several Acer products, as well as handling Microsoft's Windows OS.
By July, Acer will be projected to announce an e-book reader with a 6-inch monochrome screen, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon.co.uk and Barnes & Noble; they are American. In Europe and Australasia we have publishers to work with, and most of them are content owners," he said. Acer would go up against gadgets including the Kindle , B&N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Daily and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-when it emerges-in its sights. "We're developing something, and we will observe what happens" J.T. Wang, Acer's president, maintained in the commentary. "We're certain to work either in a Windows world or in Google's distinct OS space."
